Bretts Bar & Bistro John Judge may have only owned Bretts Farm Bistro as chef / proprietor for a short amount of time, but he’s already doing fantastic trade. Previously run as a cream-tea cafe, open Wednesday to Sunday and shutting at 4pm, John purchased the business in June 2009, and set about transforming it. Now open from 8.45am – 5pm Sunday to Wednesday and 8.45am to 9pm Thursday to Saturday, today the Bistro is a busy eatery frequented by both locals and visitors who come as much for a range of beers or wines as they do for a 3-course lunch, dinner or comforting traditional English breakfast. Sunday lunch is a firm favourite with customers and offering only locally produced meat on the menu gives Bretts Farm Bistro an edge on its competitors. John says, “Our Sunday roast is always a hit and more often than not we’re booked out on Sundays. We’ve found that eating out on a Sunday, whether young couples or families with children, is beginning to become the norm. Our Sunday roast is packed full of the traditional trimmings and chef's homemade gravy. Bretts Farm Bistro sources local produce for its menu and insists on using locally supplied meat and vegetables. The menu at the Bistro is traditionally English and runs four or five daily specials. With anything from Steak and Kidney Puddings to Seabass with Scallops and King Prawns to Steak Diane – there really is something for everyone. With 66 covers inside and 24 able to eat alfresco during the warmer months, there is an average spend per head of approximately £20 for a three course lunch. www.brettsbarbistro.co.uk
