Louis & Oscar's

Offering you a traditional tea experience in Billericay

Looking for a new venue to meet your friends? Bored with the usual cafes? Then step into a new world of delicious afternoon tea at Louis & Oscar’s, which was opened last month by author, broadcaster and local historian Sylvia Kent.

Situated in the heart of Billericay, a stone’s throw from your favourite stores this little piece of tea shop heaven is situated in an attractive 18th century cottage, owned by Ruth Scally and her partner Roger.

Ruth, owner of multi-award winning beauty salon Spa Cottage next door, has named the new shop after her two “stress busting” Maltese dogs, Louis and Oscar. It was planned after carrying out extensive research amongst her clients to discover just what they wanted from a new venue: the results showed more than 98% said a tranquil, traditional tea house serving excellent tea and home-made pastries would be perfect.

Louis & Oscar’s has had its interior redesigned and built by Ruth and builder husband Roger, has seating for 20, will employ local people and have locally baked cakes for sale too. Ruth says: “Our idea was to create a venue that wasn’t just for our clients to enjoy but would also become a regular meeting place for anyone who wanted to experience something a bit special and unusual in our town.

My plan is to bring back tradition and individuality to the high street and Louis & Oscar’s will aim to do just that especially as it will combine the skills of so many local people. We’re sure it’s going to be a big success” says Ruth.
