Daughters inspire new Miss Lawes jewellery collection A gold ‘Lucky Fish’ bangle created for her eldest daughter’s 18th birthday present inspired jewellery designer Beverley Lawes to produce a fashionable, yet affordable, silver jewellery range. Now Essex-based Beverley, design director of David Lawes Jewellery in Hatton Garden, is launching her first collection of sterling silver jewellery under the brand name Miss Lawes, which will appeal to her two teenagers as well as women looking for everyday pieces. The first Miss Lawes collection includes a silver version of the original ‘Lucky Fish’ bangle, along with pendants, charms and other bangles. Every item is designed and produced exclusively by Beverley and retails at less than £100. Beverley studied jewellery, silversmithing and allied crafts at the leading Sir John Cass College in London, where she also met her husband, David Lawes. Beverley initially worked as designer for a number of large jewellery manufacturers which supply many of the major high street retailers.
More recently, Beverley has concentrated her talents as design director for her and her husband’s fine jewellery business – David Lawes Jewellery - working directly with customers to create unique and bespoke jewellery which is craftsman made using platinum, gold and precious stones. Now, with her daughters grown up and showing their own interest in jewellery, Beverley saw an opportunity to produce an affordable collection in silver that could also take advantage of the web to sell directly to the public. Said Beverley: “I have complete control over my products - from the initial design right through to the packaging - and am aiming for an original look that is completely different from the mass-market silver bracelets and charms currently found on the high street. “My silver jewellery is heavy and luxurious to hold, with a polished finish that aims to equal our fine jewellery collection. The bangles are all solid sliver, not hollow, and every piece has a final layer of rhodium plating which prevents the silver from tarnishing and helps to keep it looking like new. “It’s presented in boxes made from solid wood, adding a wow factor for anyone receiving the jewellery as a gift. But I also wanted the collection to be something women would buy for themselves, just because they liked it, and at a price that didn’t need a special occasion. “I am inspired by my daughters – the real Miss Lawes who are very much involved in the creative side of the collection; suggesting ideas, giving opinions on fashion trends and helping with marketing. They want to wear the new designs as soon as they are finished and even modelled the jewellery in our adverts and on the Miss Lawes website. “The initial feedback has been great and now I not only have teenagers, but also career women and mums my age buying Miss Lawes jewellery.” The Miss Lawes range will be launched at Pontlands Park Ladies Day event on 26 September 2010.
